Campout Time Is Here! Friday 6/16/17

Maynard Rod & Gun Club.

Address: 45 Old Mill Rd, Maynard, MA 01754
Phone: (978) 897-2173

Dear Pack 60,
We are a go for tomorrow.  While the weather looks iffy rain-wise, 70% chance of showers tomorrow night and Sat morning (why not, its Pack 60 camping time, right?), no lightning or thunder is in the forecast.  Please feel no pressure to stay overnight – if you wish to depart after the campfire ceremony, no problem.  We have a pavilion we can use for the awards ceremony and movie night given the potential clouds will make star-gazing and constellation identification real hard.  Please look at the list below per den and see everyone tomorrow.  I have also attached a tick card I saw last night at my son’s boy scout meeting – good to reference.  The Packing list is also re-attached here.

Schedule of Events:

Tent set-up after 4:30pm – feel free to hang out
Dinner on your own
Campfire set-up 7-7:30 by Webelos I
Campfire start 7:30 (allows for several scouts in baseball/soccer/lacrosse games on Friday at 5:45 to not miss the ceremony)
Ceremony 8:00
S’mores and Campfire 8:45-9:30 (dark at approx 9pm)
Folks not sleeping over depart
Lights out 11pm
Saturday morning wake-up / light breakfast provided / fishing catch and release / depart

Tasks By Den:

Webelos I – Coordinate fire set up at 7pm and bring fire-starter material
Tiger and Wolf den – bring 2-3 pieces of firewood – we will be splitting firewood there but good to have some back-up.
Bear den – each scout bring 1qt of water for breakfast and fire extinguishing

Eagle Scout Project – Ice Skate Drive

Families of Pack 60, I have been contacted by Michael Farren – a Sudbury Troop 61 Eagle Scout – who has chosen to dedicate his Eagle Scout Project to helping Sudbury residents who wish to learn to skate.  He is constructing a skate bin to be kept at the JT Memorial rink (at Fairbank Community Center next to Haskell Field) every winter, and he wants to fill it with donated gently used skates of all types and sizes.  If you have any skates you would like to donate to this worthwhile cause, please drop them off at any of the three drop-off locations through March 30, 2017.

Locations: Goodnow Library; Thoreau Club; and The Fieldhouse.

Please see this Skate Drive Flyer for more details.

Care Packages Received by the Soldiers! (pics)

At this time of year, especially, it’s nice to know that our Pack60 family did our small part to make the American men and women serving overseas feel a little bit of home.  The care packages that our families so generously donated and assembled have been received, and we have a couple of photos from the thankful soldiers to share with the Pack.
